A premium vacuum is worth the extra cost for a cleaner home and less time wasted re-cleaning spots. When it comes to high-end vacuums, there are two names that stand out from the crowd: Dyson and Shark.

We’ve selected two of the best premium vacuums from these brands – the Shark Rocket Deluxe Pro and the Dyson V6 – to help you find the best model for your home. Which one is the best? We’ll share our preferred model later on.
The Shark Rocket Deluxe Pro
The Rocket Deluxe Pro is one of the best lightweight vacuums in the Shark lineup, but don’t let its weight fool you – it has powerful suction.
With the touch of a button, the Rocket Deluxe Pro converts to a handheld vacuum. This versatile design allows for floor-to-ceiling cleaning. A pet multi-tool and a motorized brush make it easy to clean up after pets, even when hair is embedded into upholstery.
The 30-foot cord gives you plenty of leeway to clean larger areas without having to change outlets.
The hard floor attachment allows you to clean hard floors quickly and efficiently. The included microfiber pad (which is washable) will pick up fine dirt and dust for a truly deep clean.
There are also two power options to choose from, so you can choose the right level of power for the surface you’re cleaning.
The large capacity dust cup allows you to clean for longer without having to empty out the canister. And the LED lights help you see hidden debris for an even deeper clean. The motor head can reach underneath furniture, so you can see the dirt and dust lurking under your couch.
With the Rocket Deluxe Pro, you can clean just about everywhere in your home. Pet hair cannot hide from this versatile vacuum that can even clean drapes and couch cushions.
- Lightweight for easy maneuvering
- Floor-to-ceiling cleaning
- Converts to a handheld vac
- Large-capacity dust cup
- Can clean hard flooring
- Pet tools make it easy to clean up after pets
- Can clean stairs, furniture and even curtains
- Corded design
The only drawback with the Rocket Deluxe Pro is that it has a corded design. While not a deal-breaker, the corded design does limit your movement and comes with the hassle of having to wind and unwind the cord.
Aside from this minor complaint, the Rocket Deluxe Pro is an excellent vacuum for homes with pets and those needing a lot of cleaning power.
The Dyson V6 Motorhead
The Dyson V6 Motorhead is very powerful, and it boasts a cordless design that gives you more freedom when cleaning your home.
With 75% more suction power than its predecessor, this model’s battery isn’t quite as long-lasting as other Dyson models (20 minutes). But it does offer a deep clean that’s hard to beat.
The Direct-drive head pushes the brush’s bristles deep into carpeting to remove as much dirt as possible with each pass. There’s also a crevice tool included, so you can clean those hard-to-reach places with ease.
The V6 can clean both carpeting and hard flooring, so you can use one vacuum to clean your entire home. You can also switch to handheld mode to clean furniture, stairs and even your car.
The included soft dusting brush can pick up dirt and dust in your keyboard, or leave your blinds clean as a whistle.
With an ultra-light weight of 4.5 pounds, the V6 truly is easy to use. And the charging dock hangs on the wall for easy access whenever you need it. No longer do you have to take up precious closet space just to store a vacuum.
- Cordless design gives you complete freedom
- Powerful suction removes dirt from deep down in carpeting
- Can clean carpets and hard flooring
- Accessories allow you to clean floor to ceiling
- Cleaning time is limited
The biggest complaint with the V6 Motorhead is that you’re limited on how much time you have to clean. One charge will give you about 20 minutes of power. If you live in a smaller home, this shouldn’t be an issue.
With that said, the V6 excels in nearly every other department, so this drawback is easy to overlook.
Which is the Right Vacuum for You?
Should you choose the Dyson V6 or the Shark Rocket Deluxe Pro?
We believe the Rocket Deluxe Pro gives you an overall better value. It comes with pet tools, and your cleaning time isn’t limited because this is a corded model.
The Shark model also has a larger dust cap, LED lights, and attachments that let you clean just about every inch of your home. If you want a vacuum that can do it all, this model is a great option. And if you have pets, the Rocket Deluxe Pro is the clear choice.
The Dyson V6 is still an excellent vacuum (one of the best in this category), and if you prefer the freedom of a cordless model, this is a great option.
Because it delivers such a powerful cleaning, the 20-minute battery life may not be an issue. And this model comes with some nice extra tools and accessories to help you clean those hard-to-reach areas.
There are no pet tools, though, so this model may not be the best fit for homes with pets.
The nice thing about the Dyson V6 is that you can leave it charging (hanging on your wall), and just pick it up and go when you’re ready to use it. There’s no need to worry about finding an outlet, plugging in the vacuum, and then tripping over cords as you move through your home.
The soft brush tool is nice, too, because you can use it to clean a variety of delicate surfaces, like your computer keyboard.
If you don’t have pets and you prefer a cordless design, the Dyson V6 Motorhead may be the better choice for you.
